DUCKS RETURN TO THE NECHES RIVER
The Ducks are coming back to benefit the Shorkey Center. Dr. Karen Newton announced today that the popular Rubber Ducky Derby will return to the Neches River in 2008. After an absence of five years, the Ducks will once again provide a fun family event that has been missed in the area. Established in the 1990’s, the Rubber Ducky Derby provides a valuable fund raising source for The Shorkey Center as well as an exciting addition to the annual Neches River Festival.
In preparation for the race, the Shorkey Center will hold a Rub-a-Dub- Ducky Washathon at the Shorkey Center on Saturday, October 20th from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Cleaning 10,000 ducks will take some effort and several service organizations have volunteered to assist with the project. “More help is always welcome, of course,” said Dr. Newton. “We think everyone will enjoy getting the ducks ready to race and planning the event.”
Volunteer committees are forming now to assist with pre-planning for the spring racing event. To volunteer to help with the project or to become a sponsor, call Dr. Newton at 409-838-6568 or drop by the Shorkey Center. Those wishing to enter the race early can adopt a duck for only $5. There are also family quack packs (6 ducks) for $25, dozen quackers (12 ducks) for $50. Every duck will be entered in the race and the purchaser will be eligible to win prizes and a trophy.
Duck now and avoid the rush!!
