Drillers Tailgate Party
entertaining thoughts by anna sites
Not every city has their very own football team. Luckily, Beaumont is one of the fortunate few. The Drillers, sporting their new 2008 uniforms, have kicked this season off with a bang, having already won both home games. Arena football is a fast-paced, high excitement version of it’s NFL cousin and, in my opinion, more fun to watch. The next home game kick off is Saturday, May 17 at 7:05 p.m., so enjoy some local team spirit by throwing a Drillers get-together at home before heading to Ford Arena!
Hamburgers are an all-American standby for tailgating everywhere, but try jazzing it up a bit with some less-than-conventional ingredients. Make them lower in fat but high in flavor by using chicken rather than beef and add the unexpected kick of Cajun spices. (See recipe below.)
All that great flavor is bound to make some fans thirsty. Pair those delicious chicken burgers with your favorite beer or give Sam Adams Light a try. The sweetness of the malt evens out the spiciness of the seasoning. If you’re looking for a pre-ball buzz, wet your whistle with a crisp cocktail. (Give the recipe below a try!)
The Drillers games at Ford Arena offer high energy football in a smaller setting with a friendly backyard ball game air to it that makes spectators feel at home. And with tickets starting at $10, you’re sure to enjoy a little local gridiron action. See you there!
*For a tasty tailgate eat: Saute ½ cup of onion, ½ of a red bell pepper and 2 cloves of garlic with 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until soft. Combine with 1 ½ pounds of ground chicken, then add one small can minced black olives, two tablespoons canned and diced green chilies, about 4 teaspoons Cajun seasoning and one teaspoon red chili flakes (if desired). Mix thoroughly with one egg and 2 tablespoons seasoned bread crumbs. Form four patties, refrigerate 20 minutes and cook in 2 tablespoons olive oil for about 3 minutes per side. Serve with your favorite burger fixings on toasted buns with a side of potato chips.
*For a kickin’ pre-game treat: Mix 2 cups ginger ale with one cup dark rum and 1/4 cup fresh lime juice and serve over ice. This will certainly have you ready to cheer for your hometown team (although the designated driver may want to partake of the ginger ale all by itself).
