When it comes to eyebrow shaping I can say that I’ve tried it ALL. Well, I’ve tried the most common methods, such as plucking, waxing, depilatory creams, and razors. These methods are painful, and can cause redness, puffiness, and remove the top layer of skin from your face. I’ve never tried sugaring, but from what I hear, it’s still somewhat painful. Well, there seems to be a new technique becoming increasingly popular with American women called threading.

Threading, which is called Khite (Arabic) and Fatlah (Egyptian), is a Threadinghair removal technique that originated in India, but is widely practiced in the Middle East. It involves twisting a piece of thread (100% cotton is the best) into a double strand, which is used to pick up a line of hair and remove it, creating a very clean, precise hairline. For most clients, it is RELATIVELY PAINLESS and doesn’t cause redness. Threading removes hair by the follicle so it lasts a reasonable amount of time. It can also be used to remove all facial hair.

I was recently introduced to eyebrow threading by a good friend of mine (let’s just call her Len). After shopping all day in Houston, Len decided that we should get our eyebrows done. Thinking that “done” meant waxing I decided to pass. The last time I had my brows waxed, the technician drew blood, which completely turned me off of waxing forever. Len accused me of having Yoda eyebrows and insisted that we go get ours threaded. I had never heard of it but eager to no longer look like the green man from Star Wars I readily agreed to try it, and have never looked back since.

According to stylist Rachel Herrera at Tic Tac Day Spa and Salon, threading is great for clients with sensitive skin, Retin-A and Accutane users because it does not remove the top layer of skin. Threading does not use harmful products and is great for women who have a lot of hair.

If you’re interested in threading and you don’t want to drive to Houston to get it, I know it is being offered at Tic Tac Salon on Dowlen Road. Also, if you want to see what the procedure looks like before having it done yourself, search for it on youtube.com.
