Last Minute Party Planning
Contributed by Marissa Sellers, owner of Glass Slipper Events
Last year you swore that this year you'd throw a holiday party. However, Christmas is just handful of days away. How will you get it all done? We checked it with Marissa Sellers, owner of Glass Slipper Events to learn the basics of planning a last minute party.
Location- You will more than likely have to host at a home or more intimate location. With it being last minute and competing with already planned holiday parties it would be difficult to find a location at a restaurant or event venue, but it never hurts to check.
Guest count- Invite with evite.com and phone calls if no time for mailing invitations. Check Target and the Mail Room for invitations. You will know how much space you need to accommodate your guests comfortably.
Food & beverage- HEB has great options for hors d'oeuvre and entrees. Main Dish is a fantastic last minute option!! Pick up the entree and prepare some easy sides. Rao's for desserts. You can find great beverages on www.MarthaStewart.com. Type "Holiday Cocktails, Punches, and Drinks" in the search bar. Pick your favorite!
Decor- Candles are an inexpensive way to add ambiance to your event. Pillar candles in vases with cranberries always make great centerpieces. Festive runners and linens can be found at Target and don't forget about Hobby Lobby for holiday decor. Fresh greenery is very festive and smells wonderful! You can always call a florist and order holiday centerpieces.
Music- Burn or purchase festive and upbeat holiday classics. I am a big fan of the holiday CDs sold at Starbucks...if there are any left. If you have cable, check to see if there are music channels that offer seasonal music.
Gifts- Ornaments and anything edible are great gifts. Purchase pre-made cookie dough and throw them in the oven, then wrap in fun holiday bags.
Entertainment- Visiting with the people you love and enjoy, of course. A white elephant gift exchange is always entertaining. My family would always hire or ask someone to make an appearance as Santa Clause at our family parties...huge hit with children!
