New Year Resolution Solutions

by ashley behn

Many of us will make New Year's Resolutions today and tomorrow. Some will be kept. Most will be forgotten. Most diets will begin "tomorrow" for several tomorrows in a row. In efforts to help you keep your resolutions, we have a few solutions from around town for you add to the list.

  1. "I will exercise." Try a 24-hour gym such as Girlfriends on Phelan in Beaumont. Or, better yet, hire a personal trainer like Michelle Greene.
  2. "I will cook more often." A new year probably doesn't mean automatic minutes added to your day, so if you want to eat at home more often, try a service such as the studio kichen Main Dish or home delivery such as The Weekly Dish (theweeklydish@att.net).
  3. "I will be more honest." There's not a store you can purchase honesty at, but try memorizing Proverbs, "An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips."
  4. "I will go back to school." Lamar University is right in our backyard. With locations in Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange, there's no excuse for getting there.
  5. "I will spend more time with my family." Turn off the TV. Go to Colorado Canyon for putt-putt or Crossroads for bowling.
  6. "I will see to it that I grow spiritually." See our list for local churches that area readers have recommended.
  7. "I will try something new." The Kitchen Shop in Beaumont often offers cooking classes. D'Vine Winery in Beaumont offers wine tasting and a unique entertaining experience.
  8. "I will take a trip." With 50 states to choose from (not to mention going out of the country), this is a whole other story in itself. Although, we are big fans of Austin.
  9. "I will get a better job." Try your local Workforce office.
  10. "I will not be burdened by the pressure of my resolutions, but rather make the most of each day, living one day at a time." This one's a keeper.
