Beauty & Fashion

We’ve been watching you.

Not in a scary, psycho kind of way. More of a we-just-want-to-help kind of way. We’ve been watching your Southeast Texas fashion and beauty know-how. Some things we’ve seen have been good. Some have things have not. Beaumontbuzz.com will begin to address these issues one by one (we take this very serious… anytime you make something an “i-s-s-u-e,” it seems to become important). First (and oh-so-important), eyeliner. Makeup Guru Grace Mathis gives us a little lesson in using this misunderstood cosmetic necessity.

Buzz Note: This article is not meant to offend anyone with the "Don’t” techniques. If you feel like the Don’t fits you, then Do read on, consider yourself convicted, and change your life today. Ok, this article may not technically be life-changing information, but your eyes will look pretty at the end nonetheless.

P.S. The eyeliner color choice is for illustration only. We DO NOT recommend using a bright lilac pencil to enhance your eyes. Think a little more tame- brown, black, navy, deep purple or green.

The Look: Sexy, Sultry Eye

The Don’t: Heavily Rimmed Eyes

Drawing a line from corner to corner all the way around the eye presents a harsh, Halloween kind of eye. Not sexy in most cases. The Do: Soft & Smoky

The How: Line inner rim & smudge into lash line with Q-tip or finger.

The Look: Polished, Everyday Eye

The Don’t: Thin line drawn too far away from lash line. (Rather than enhancing your eye, it draws obvious cosmetic attention which gives you no hope for looking “natural.”)

The Do: Use eyeliner as an illusion of thicker lashes.

Option 1                          Option 2                          Option 3

The How: Option One: Line eye (see lining tips to the right) on the top from the outer edge to the near inner edge (stop slightly past your eye color). It is essential to get VERY CLOSE to the base of your lash line. Lightly smudge with Q-tip or finger.

Option Two: Line the top the same way as in Option One. This time, include the bottom lashes. Line the eye, at the baseline of the lashes, JUST on the outer edge of your lower lash line. Stop before you get to your eye color. Smudge with Q-tip or finger.

Option Three: To make eyes look larger, you want to concentrate on the outer edges. Line eyes at the base of the lash line on THE OUTER EDGE OF TOP & BOTTOM ONLY. Think of this as a “greater than” math symbol. You will stop on both the top and bottom before you get to your eye color.

The Look: Mod Cat-Eye

The Don’t: Harsh, unflattering line

The Do: Practice, practice, practice. (Think Angelina Jolie)

The How: Get Grace to do it for you. If that’s not convenient at the time of application, then practice… lots… before going out into public with this look. The mod cat-eye is a great look. It is not a great look if it is not done right. Hold outer eye taut and begin on the outer corner with a little upwards curve. Then, take the line and take it across the eye next to the lash line. Once you’ve practiced, you'll find what application works best for you. Even professional makeup artists sometimes have to start over when trying to apply this look.
