Come with us as we begin our exploration of this world. Beaumont resident and self-professed Resale Junkie, Grace Mathis, takes us to one of her favorite resale shops, IZ Funky Resale in Beaumont. If you’ve driven down Calder nearing Downtown, then you can’t possibly have missed this funky little resale boutique. Its aqua exterior, zebra print door frames and graffiti store sign stands out amongst the shops in Beaumont’s unique Old Town. The interior is much of the same. Great music welcomes each customer into the artistically painted store. Red walls, a yellow ceiling, and a working stoplight adorn this shop’s appearance.

Owner Donna Childress opened the original IZ Funky Resale in Nederland in 1999. The Calder location opened on April 1, 2006. Manager Kayla Harper says her favorite thing about operating IZ is “supporting difference,” which is echoed in their current branding campaign, “Dare to be Different.” The mannequins are definitely not dressed like the models on a GAP poster, but rather fun and creative instead. IZ focuses on trends and accessorizing your wardrobe. In addition to clothing (men and women), IZ sells jewelry, hats, handbags, ties and shoes (lots and lots of shoes!). Who shops at a store like IZ? “Men and women of all ages with a young heart,” says Kayla. Our Resale Junkie, Grace, is a Beaumont native, but has lived in Houston the last several years. Grace says that discovering a fun shop like IZ put a step in her day and assured her that “moving home” was going to be OK. “It’s just a fun place to visit,” says Grace.
