We love the growing trend of resale and consignment in Southeast Texas. It’s a fun, relaxing way to shop. There’s no pressure, just the thrill of finding a good deal. Once you start shopping in stores like these, you’ll find yourself needing to “pop in real quick” on a regular basis. Beaumontbuzz.com conducted “research” and went into a few shops around town FOR you (see, we are a thoughtful bunch).

Here are the tales of 3 stores and reasons why you should visit them.

Case Study 1: Act II (Consignment)

Location: 6342 Phelan Blvd. in the Colonnade Shopping Center/ 409.866.3144
Hours: 10am-6pm Monday-Saturday; open until 7pm on Thursday

Owner Linda Ford has a heated passion for her business. Ask her about Act II and her face lights up. For the last 6 years, she’s built a quality consignment business that focuses on personal attention in a clean, organized environment that you might find at an area upscale boutique. Act II has been voted the #1 Resale Shop in the Golden Triangle since 2001 and is the only resale shop in our area that is a member of the Better Business Bureau. Linda and her staff truly focus on every customer that walks in and pays careful attention to the service they provide. Because of this, she has loyal customers, many that visit her several times a week. Naturally, who wants to miss a good deal? To consign at Act II, clothing must be no older than the last 2-3 seasons and in mint condition (no holes or stains). You may bring in any number of items and will receive in return 50% of whatever the items sell for based on a 60 day contract. Items that do not sell after 60 days are donated to Some Other Place. For clothing, Act II takes size 0-4x (nearly all brands except Target or Walmart). Accessories accepted include jewelry, shoes, handbags, belts, and hats. Act II is famous for: fur coats and plus size clothing.

Case Study 2: Boho Soul “Vintage Clothing & Lifestyle Store” (A little of both worlds)

Location: 489 Pearl St. (next to Crockett Street Entertainment)/ 409.832.7455
Hours: 11am-6pm Monday- Friday; 11am-7pm Saturday

Owners Rodney and Shonte’ Cooley have never been to Austin, TX. However, when you walk into their vintage store, there is an Austin flair about the place- cool, relaxed and original. Boho Soul is unique in nature and is not an Austin replica because they’ve never been to another store of its kind. The décor and items carried are of their own inspiration and creativity. Boho Soul has buyers that scope out vintage goods all across the United States. For the locals, you can bring in vintage goods for store credit or trade. This husband and wife duo originally opened their first resale store, Strickly Kids, four years ago. After closing that store, they opened Studio Couture on Phelan Blvd. in 2005 (then moved the store downtown). Studio Couture closed and re-opened on Pearl Street as Boho Soul on October 31, 2006. Boho Soul has beautiful vintage furniture and décor accessories, as well as enough clothing (jewelry, shoes, belts and handbags too!) to dress every woman in Southeast Texas. Pricing ranges from $7ish-$100ish with the higher end being furniture. Make them your My Space friend- visit www.myspace.com/boho_soul. Boho Soul is famous for: Being a great addition to Beaumont’s downtown & designer jeans.

Many antique shops in Beaumont’s Old Town are thankful that owner Donna Childress brought her funky little boutique to their area. Having IZ Funky Resale has brought a new, younger clientele to Old Town shopping. Manager Kayla Harper says you don’t have to be young in age to shop at her store, just young at heart! How it works: Bring in gently worn clothing that is representative of current trends. IZ can buy your clothing outright with 35% cash based on sale price, give a 50% store credit or trade you item for item. So, here's what we are wondering... what do you have in your closet that you could sell? Rather than thinking of shopping in these stores as shopping for "used" clothing, think of it as shopping for clothes  with a history. If you've ever been in a resale or consignment store, have you ever wondered who owned those clothes? Who says that the shirt on the mannequin didn't come from someone famous? Like the people who owned the clothes, there is a story behind each garment. For the woman needing to sell her clothes, the Resale vs. Consignment saga is this... in one business you can earn money on the spot (resale) and with the other, you earn money after your garments sell (consignment). Either way, you are sharing your life with someone else AND making a buck or two!

Be sure to tell these stores you heard about them on Beaumontbuzz.com!
