Spindletop Spin

This Saturday marks the 3rd Annual Spindletop Spin bike ride in downtown Beaumont. Put on by the Jefferson County Bar Association Pro Bono Program, the fundraiser began as a dinner with a speaker every two years, but evolved into what it is today after a suggestion from one of the lawyers involved, who happened to be an avid bike rider himself. The Spin is held in memory of the Honorable Tom Mulvaney. As the word has spread, the event has grown and the projected number of participants this year is expected to be between 350 and 400 riders.
Both starting and finishing at Crockett Street, there are four routes to choose from ranging in distance from 10 to 70 miles. The entry fee is $30 for an individual and $40 for a family (consisting of two adults and two minors). Registration begins at 6:00 am and the first ride begins at 7:00am. Lunch is provided, donated by the Spindletop Restaurant, and there will be door prize drawings from 8:00am-11:00am. Prizes include a new bicycle, gift certificates and gift baskets donated by local businesses. Other activities include ice cream and sno cone stands, as well as a DJ outside and a band located inside Antone’s. All proceeds go to the Pro Bono Program, which provides families in and around Jefferson County with legal assistance they would not otherwise be able to afford.
If you would like more information, to register for the Spindletop Spin or to donate to the program, check out their website www.spindletopspin.com or contact Cindy Torrans at (409) 839-2332 or probono@jcba.org.
