Sweet Pea Mom Creates Memories

Stay-at-home mom Melanie Orlando Herring has always wanted to run her own business. In recent years she has researched tons of ways to work from home. Her entrepreneurial spirit and a love for “making things” led to her current business adventure. Many of you might have even received her craft for Christmas. She’s the owner of Sweet Pea Stuff, a custom photo pendant and jewelry design company.

How did she get started? Melanie drummed up her photo pendant inspiration from watching an episode of HGTV’s Coast-to-Coast where crafters all across the U.S. showcase their talent. She modified what she saw on the show a bit and made the craft her own. Her love of crafts, jewelry making and independence make this business a success. Women all over town are wearing their photo memories around their neck thanks to Melanie’s creation! If you’ve never seen her one-of-a-kind pendants, they are small photos encased in glass, edged with silver, hung on a beautiful chain. The pendants come in several shapes- rectangles, squares, circles or ovals. Most people choose their pendant based on the layout of the photo(s) they want used. Melanie’s necklaces and pendants can be found online at www.sweetpeastuffonline.com or locally at Belle Maman (5955 Phelan Blvd.) or Shabby Chic Baby (on Calder near Lucas).

Melanie was born in Berwick, Louisiana, but has called Beaumont home since 1997. She left Berwick to attend a Texas university, but left that school to live in Beaumont with her aunt while she worked for awhile. Melanie planned on being in Beaumont for only a year, but met and fell in love with Brett Herring, her now husband. Marrying Brett meant staying put! Melanie finished her degree at Lamar University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Dance. Lamar Alumni may recognize Melanie from her performances with the Lamar Spirit Team during the late nineties. Melanie currently serves as the Creativity Chair for Mothers of Preschoolers at First Baptist Church and attends Trinity United Methodist Church. She and Brett now have a 2-year-old daughter, Sophia, and are expecting baby number two in June 2007. Melanie can be contacted directly at melanie@sweetpeastuffonline.com.
