Wednesdays: My HEB Plus on Dowlen welcomes you to a Local Farmers Market Event! Every Wednesday starting May 6th - June 24th, 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.come by to visit our local growers. Free event for local growers to bring their produce and sell to the public. If you are a gardener and would like to bring your items to sell please call the store at 409 866-2007 and ask for Richard in produce for more details. We support local growers and we buy Texas First at MY HEB Plus, HERE EVERYTHING'S BETTER!

4th: First Thursday in downtown Beaumont from 5-9 pm! Head out to the Mildred Building (corner of MLK & Calder) for outside dining, music & shopping!

5th: REGISTRATION begins for Summer Reading Club at all Beaumont libraries for ages 3- 16. Reading incentives include a book, t-shirt, and coupons to local restaurants. A trophy will be given to the top reader in 5 age categories.

8th: Young Audiences of Southeast Texas hosts “Hot Art/Cool Jazz” 
Monday, June 8 from 7-10 pm at The Barking Dog Coffee Lounge located at 493 Pearl St. in downtown Beaumont. This evening spotlights some of Southeast Texas’ finest up and coming artists and jazz musicians with all proceeds benefiting arts-in-education programs in SETX area schools. The art show and sale will feature photography by Orange native Walker Pickering and artwork by the Lamar Artist
Common and winners of the 2009 YASETX High School/Junior High Art Contest.

11th: Green Thumbs for Children 4:00p-5:00pm at the McFaddin-Ward House, 708 N. 4th Street, Beaumont behind the carriage house at 4th and North Streets. "Green Thumbs" for Children who love nature and gardening
The June topic is “Bugs: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly!”

24th: Search Me: Father’s Day at the McFaddin-Ward House
As a Father’s Day treat on Sunday, June 21, from 1:00-3:30 p.m., take your Father on a scavenger hunt through the McFaddin-Ward Carriage House for Father’s Day. Light refreshments at the carriage house. Tour the first floor of the McFaddin-Ward House. Starts at the visitor center 1906 Calder Avenue at Third Street.
Free and the public is invited. Age 8 and up to tour the house.
Any age to visit the carriage house.

 

4th: Beaumont's Firework Festivities at the Neches River kick off at 5:00 pm. Fun includes fireworks (duh), live music, and skydivers. Due to road construction on Calder Street in Downtown Beaumont, we are recommending you come a little early and park at any of the following parking lots where there will be no parking fees charged: Beaumont City Hall, Beaumont Civic Center, Main Library, and the Remote Encoding Center. We are also recommending that you come into downtown either by way of College Street or the Liberty/Laurel exchange. For complete info, click here.

8th: "42nd Street," a 1930s -era movie will be shown at the historical McFaddin-Ward House at 6:30 pm. Free to the public. Free popcorn will be served! Enter at the Visitor Center lecture hall at 1906 Calder in Beaumont.

 

15th, 29th: Catholic Charities is excited to offer financial education through our Asset Building Case Management program. As part of the asset building process we are offering the “Fundamentals of Good Credit” – Money Management & Homebuyer Education classes. This course is being offered at no cost to the participant and is open to anyone in the community. Participants will learn about: Intro to Personal Financial Management, Your Credit Report, Basic Banking, The Credit Process, Consumer Laws & Rights, Your Re-Entry into the Credit Mainstream, and Homebuyers’ Training.
Pre registration is required, and will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. We are scheduled to have our next set of classes on August 15th, August 29th & September 12th. These classes will be held each scheduled Saturday at the Beaumont Housing Authority from 9am to 2pm. for a total of three Saturdays. Attendance is required at all three classes in order to receive a Certificate of Completion. This curriculum is approved for the Smart Saver Individual Development Accounts (IDA). This is also a good class for those working directly with families. For example a case worker could attend, and then use the information to assist the families that they are working with. Please feel free to share this information with anyone you think may benefit.
