Vallie Marie Day Spa

by ashley behn

I went to Vallie Marie Day Spa this weekend to cash in a birthday gift certificate. My appointment was with Maranda for the Morning Dew Facial. What an experience! Many salons & pampering centers slap the word "spa' on the back of their name. Vallie Marie actually is one. Upon entering the gates, I knew I was in for some serious relaxation. Even the custodial staff is kind and polite. I was warmly greeted by a sweet woman sweeping the sidewalk. She even stepped out of the way for me to walk through! Maybe she thought I was royalty. Or, perhaps needed more room with my 8 month pregnant belly. Nonetheless, I was further greeted at the door ("Good morning, Ashley... have a seat." Ah, sweet words to my soul!) by Amber. Maranda then retrieved my tired self from the chair and escorted me to the beautiful changing room. After slipping into my robe and comfy spa slippers, I was treated to a few moments of peace and quiet in a waiting room that overlooks a garden.

Maranda took me to my final destination where I was pampered with my facial. I did not want to leave, but eventually all good things must come to an end.

I have to say, woman to woman, that I was a little mystified when my sweet hubby gave me the Vallie Marie gift certificate. Any woman who has not yet discovered the power of a spa knows she has no time for pampering herself! For me, I opened the gift certificate and while excited, all I could think about is all that I had to do and when would I get to go and actually relax? I have 2 children- a boy at age 3, a girl at age 1 and expecting #3 in about a month. I run 2 businesses from home. I volunteer. I'm trying to sell my home. You know the drill. Does this sound familiar?

I have to say that my Vallie Marie experience completely changed the way I view pampering myself. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to settle my thoughts enough to enjoy the service. The staff and environment there DID allow me to just be me. I had just enough time to take a deep breath and be grateful for my thoughtful hubby's gift. Vallie Marie was well worth my hour and I WILL be back. Anyone want to go?
